'Star Wars Knights Of The Old Republic II: The Sith Lords' Comes To Mac And Linux
A few weeks ago, we learned that Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition was getting an upgrade by way of an entirely new expansion. Even though the whole game is just an updated version of the classic title, it's still played by fans of the original game. In a similar way, another game from the early 2000s -- Star Wars Knight of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords -- is also getting a big update. The beloved title didn't get an expansion, but rather a slew of new features to modernize it in addition to making its debut on Mac and Linux platforms.
One of the new features is achievements, and it now has 37 of them for you to show off to your Steam friends. If you want a console-like experience, the game now includes support for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 4 controllers, as well as other third-party controllers.
In terms of graphics, you can only do so much to a game that came out in 2004. However, that doesn't mean there aren't ways to make it appealing to today's gamers. For example, it now comes with widescreen support, so you don't have to continuously deal with that 4:3 screen ratio with the black bars on the sides of the screen. If that's not enough for you and you really want to make sure you're getting your money's worth with your brand new monitor, the game also supports 4K and 5K resolutions.
Other updates include integration with Steam Cloud saves and support for Steam Workshop. This means that players can now go into the game and make new characters, quests, or items to expand their favorite game as they see fit. Finally, the developers at Aspyr also added a "Force Speed Effects" option in the game to add a little more flair to your Jedi powers.
It's unclear as to why these upgrades were made. If anything, it's to show that the game is still popular, almost 11 years after its release. The facelifts, achievements, and controller support make it appealing to today's gamers, but it's still the classic RPG gameplay that lured in fans of the series years ago.
